Week 9 ACC & Big 12 Recap: Miami Stuns Duke, TCU Stays Undefeated

Miami 30, #22 Duke 27

The Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1 ACC) rallied back from a 12-point deficit, only to lose on a controversial eight-lateral kickoff return by the Hurricanes (5-3, 2-2 ACC) in the closing seconds. Trailing 24-12 with six minutes remaining, QB Thomas Sirk (31-52, 258 yards) capped a 14-play drive with a with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Johnell Barnes. Miami went three-and-out, and Duke mounted a 10 play, 80-yard drive culminating with a 1-yard rush by Sirk for the go-ahead touchdown before the Canes’ highly-scrutinized “miracle” return.

 

North Carolina 26, #23 Pittsburgh 19

After opening the season with a loss, the Tar Heels (7-1, 4-0 ACC) have won seven straight, most recently defeating the Panthers (6-2, 4-1 ACC) on Thursday night. QB Marquise Williams threw for 270 yards (14-23) and two touchdowns. The teams traded field goals in the first quarter before Williams opened up the scoring with a 71-yard touchdown strike to Ryan Switzer to give North Carolina the lead for good early in the second quarter.

 

#12 Oklahoma State 70, Texas Tech 53

The Cowboys (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) erased an early 17-point deficit to win their shootout with the Red Raiders (5-4, 2-4 Big 12). Oklahoma State piled up a season-high 662 offensive yards, including a career-high 200 receiving yards for James Washington. Trailing 45-42 with twelve minutes remaining, the Cowboys outscored the Red Raiders 28-8 down the stretch to seal the victory.

 

#5 TCU 40, West Virginia 10

The Horned Frogs (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) won their 16th consecutive game, defeating the Mountaineers (3-4, 0-4 Big 12) Thursday night. TCU never trailed, as QB Trevone Boykin threw for 388 yards (32-47) and three touchdowns on his way to breaking the program’s career total offense record.

Louisville (4-4, 3-2 ACC) defeated Wake Forest (3-6, 1-5 ACC), 20-19
