Rutgers Looking To Keep The Streak Alive

If Rutgers bowl history is any indication of the upcoming Russell Athletic Bowl, then the team should have no trouble pulling out another win to wrap up their season. The team holds the nation’s longest active bowl winning streak at five along with Mississippi State. This will be the teams’ seventh bowl in the past eight years.

The Streak
2006: Texas Bowl vs. Kansas State, 37-10
2007: International Bowl vs. Ball State, 52-30
2008: Papajohns.com Bowl vs. NC State, 29-23
2009: St. Petersburg Bowl vs. UCF, 45-24
2010: (no bowl)
2011: Pinstripe Bowl vs. Iowa State, 27-13

With a victory Friday, Rutgers would extend their hold on the longest active bowl-winning streak to six games, as well as earn the third 10-win season in Scarlet Knights history (after 1976 and 2006). It would also make Kyle Flood the only first-year coach in the school’s history to win 10 games in his first season at Rutgers.

“ will send the seniors off the right way and get the younger guys and guys in recruiting, just send a good vibe for next year,” said quarterback Gary Nova. “We’ve got a lot of talent coming back. It should be a good year.”
