North Carolina and Baylor Treat Themselves in Orlando
Every year, the Russell Athletic Bowl treats participating players from each team to a shopping spree as part of their bowl gift, and the hot gadgets of the season fly off the shelves.
As part of the bowl experience each player from the Russell Athletic Bowl teams receive a $350 gift card to purchase whatever they want at a local retailer in Orlando. On Saturday and Sunday, UNC and Baylor treated themselves to a shopping spree.
But, not every player went with the hot new gaming system or headphones, some went a little different.
Baylor red-shirt freshman defensive tackle Andrew Morris didn’t use his gift card on himself, he instead used it for someone he loves. Morris purchased a KitchenAid Mixer.
“My mom always wanted one so I’m going to surprise her with this for Christmas,” Morris said. “Maybe now she can bake me some cakes or something when I get home.”
For North Carolina’s Nathan Staub, he decided to use some of the gift card on the hottest album right now. Staub decided to purchase Adele’s “25”.
“I just really love Adele and I really wanted her album,” Staub said.
In years past players have bought toothbrushes, vacuums and even have given away their gift cards to local children or charities.
