American Week Ten Preview

Cincinnati (5-2, 2-1 AAC) travels to Memphis (1-5, 0-3 AAC) for a Wednesday night conference game. The Bearcats are 1-2 on the road this season, with losses at Illinois and South Florida, but are on a two-game winning streak overall, defeating Temple and Connecticut at home. Memphis has lost three-straight since defeating Arkansas State on September 21. The Tigers have won 18 of 30 matchups against Cincinnati dating back to 1966, but the teams have not met since the Bearcats’ 49-10 victory in 2004.

Houston (6-1, 3-0 AAC) hosts South Florida (2-5, 2-1 AAC) on Halloween night. The Cougars’ offense is led by freshman QB John O’Korn, who set career bests with 364 passing yards and five touchdowns in the team’s 49-14 win over Rutgers. Houston’s offense ranks 10th in the FBS in points scored with 42.0 points per game. South Florida suffered its first conference setback last weekend, falling 34-3 at home to Louisville. The Bulls are 2-0 all-time against Houston.

Rutgers (4-3, 1-2 AAC) welcomes Temple (1-7, 0-4 AAC) to Piscataway for the lone Saturday game in the American this week. The Scarlet Knights dropped a 49-14 contest to Houston in week nine, but freshman RB Justin Goodwin shined, rushing for 161 yards and two touchdowns.  Temple scored a season-high 49 points against SMU, but could not hold on to a 28-14 halftime lead, as the Mustangs won 59-49. Owls’ wideout Robbie Anderson caught nine passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat.
