ACC Week Three Preview
Georgia Tech (1-0) visits Duke (2-0) to open ACC conference play for both schools. Both teams have gotten off to impressive non-conference starts as Georgia Tech blasted Elon 70-0 and Duke has rolled past NC Central and Memphis. The Yellow Jackets are currently riding its longest ever winning streak over the Blue Devils, winning nine straight matchups dating to 2004.
Boston College (2-0, 1-0 ACC) heads west to battle USC (1-1, 0-1 Pac-12) at The Coliseum. Eagles’ running back Andre Williams ranks third nationally in rushing with 318 yards, including a career-best 204 yards in the win over Wake Forest. The Trojans are coming off a home loss to Washington State in which they gained only 193 yards.
Maryland (2-0) visits Connecticut (0-1) as head coach Randy Edsall returns to the school where he won 74 games and led the Huskies to the Fiesta Bowl in 2010. The Terps have gotten off to a quick start offensively and defensively. WR Stefon Diggs has 277 receiving yards through two games, while the defense leads the ACC with nine sacks.
Virginia Tech (1-1) visits East Carolina (2-0) for the second time in three years. The Hokies defeated Western Carolina this past weekend, while ECU has opened with two-straight home victories. ECU last beat Virginia Tech in 2008, its only win in the past 10 meetings.
Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1 ACC) returns home to face Louisiana-Monroe (1-1), following a 24-10 setback at Boston College. The Demon Deacons gained more yards through the air than the Eagles, but turned the ball over three times. Louisiana-Monroe’s loss came at the hands of Oklahoma to open the season.
Pittsburgh (0-1, 0-1 ACC) plays its first game since Labor Day night, hosting New Mexico (1-1). The Panthers started 0-2 last season and have not lost their first two games in back-to-back seasons since 1968-1969.
QB Jameis Winston makes his first home start as Nevada (1-1) visits No. 9 Florida State (1-0, 1-0 ACC). Winston had a memorable debut performance at Pittsburgh passing for 356 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for another score.
Syracuse (0-2) returns home to face FCS-foe Wagner (1-1).
