ACC Week 11 Preview

No. 10 Florida State (8-1, 5-1 ACC) looks to keep its ACC championship and BCS berth hopes alive when it travels to Blacksburg on Thursday night to face Virginia Tech (4-5, 2-3 ACC). The Seminoles lead the series 22-12-1, but the teams are split over the last four meetings (including a pair of ACC Championship Games). Though the Hokies are experiencing a down year (their five losses is the most under Frank Beamer since 2003), they remain a dangerous foe for any ACC team.

One week after its own trip to Blacksburg, Miami (5-4, 4-2 ACC) makes another Virginia road trip to Charlottesville as the meet the Cavaliers (3-6, 1-4 ACC). The Hurricanes struggle on defense away from home, surrendering 32 or more points on each of their previous road games. Virginia snapped a six-game losing streak last weekend against NC State.

Fresh off that stunning upset loss to the Cavs, NC State (5-4, 2-3 ACC) looks to rebound when they host Wake Forest (5-4, 3-4 ACC). The home team has won in each of the last five meetings.

No. 13 Clemson (8-1, 5-1 ACC) continues to keep pace with Florida State in hopes of a Seminole stumble. The Tigers host Maryland (4-5, 2-3 ACC) at Death Valley, where the Terps have won two of the last three.

In nonconference action, Boston College (2-7, 1-5 ACC) will try to channel some of the magic of 2002, when they upset an 8-0 Notre Dame team. The Eagles lead the series 6-3 since 2001, but the Irish (9-0) have won the last three. In the history of the series, Notre Dame has only won in Chesnut Hill three times.
