A Thriller at Doak
After postponing their Week 3 matchup due to Hurricane Irma, Miami and Florida State met for the 62nd time over the weekend, with the Hurricanes surpassing the Seminoles in the final seconds for a 24-20 road victory.
The defenses dominated the first three quarters of the game, as Florida State led just 3-0 at the half and Miami took a 10-3 advantage into the fourth quarter. The offenses exploded in the final frame, however, with the Seminoles and Hurricanes scoring on five of their six combined drives, including a pair of touchdowns in the final 90 seconds.
Trailing by four with a minute and thirty seconds remaining, James Blackman found a wide-open Auden Tate in the back of the end zone to give the ‘Noles a 20-17 lead. On the ensuing drive, Miami marched down the field using five completions of 10 or more yards to get deep into Florida State territory with 11 seconds to play. Hurricanes quarterback Malik Rosier then found Darrell Langham along the sidelines, and Langham made a back-shoulder catch over a defender before stumbling into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.

Horned Frogs Thwart Upset Attempt
This week, Fort Worth was the site of College Gameday, and with it, Coach Corso’s 300th headgear pick. The legendary coach and college football personality chose the home team over the visiting No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers in the afternoon clash, and his pick was right on the money, as TCU held off the Mountaineers’ upset attempt for a 31-24 victory.

After jumping out to a 17-3 lead at home, TCU saw its two-score lead vanish thanks to long touchdown completions of 64 and 76 yards from Will Grier late in the third quarter. The Horned Frogs responded in the final seconds of the quarter thanks to some trickery from the Horned Frogs and a nice show of athleticism from the man known as “Kenny Trill” — quarterback Kenny Hill.

After a touchdown pass from Grier to David Sills V tied the game once again, Hill had an answer of his own, leading the Frogs on a 6:57-long drive and capping it off with a touchdown run of his own. The one-time backup to Johnny Manziel finished the game with a passing, receiving and rushing touchdown.

Thursday Night Football
Our week of conference action kicked off Thursday evening, as No. 24 NC State hosted reigning Heisman Tophy winner Lamar Jackson and the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals in an ACC Coastal Division matchup. The Wolfpack remained unbeaten in the ACC and kept pace with No. 2 Clemson as they knocked off the Cardinals, 39-25.
After NC State took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, Cardinals wide receiver Seth Dawkins made a great play to tie the score, sticking with this Jackson pass and reeling it in for a touchdown.

Later, with his team trailing by 13 points, Jackson led the Cardinals offense down the field on a seven-play, 80-yard drive to make it a one-score game with just over four minutes to play. Following a quick stop by the defense, Jackson and Co. returned to the field looking to send the game into overtime, but just two plays later, the Wolfpack ended those hopes thanks to this play from Germaine Pratt.

Cyclones Storm Norman
Following their narrow victory over a winless Baylor team on the road last weekend, the Sooners again played with fire this week. This time, however, they were unable to escape with a victory, falling 38-31 at home.
Despite trailing 17-3 early and history not being on their side (see here and here), the Cyclones refused to back down. After clawing their way back to tie the game at 24-24 after three quarters, the ‘Clones put the pressure on the unbeaten No. 3 Sooners in the final frame and took their first lead with just under 13 minutes to play thanks to a 57-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Kempt to Trever Ryen. Oklahoma’s Dmitri Flowers punched it in from one yard out on the ensuing drive to pull the game back to square midway through the fourth quarter.
While all this action was going on, it’s important to note what former Iowa State quarterback and current Cyclones middle linebacker Joel Lanning was doing. With Cyclones starting quarterback Jacob Park unable to play, Lanning split time under center with Kempt while continuing to play on the defensive side of the ball. Entering the contest with the second most tackles in the Big 12, Lanning finished with one heck of a stat line:
Joel Lanning’s stat line for ISU:
-2/3 passing for 25 yds
-9 carries for 36 yds
-8 tackles (4 solo)
-1 sack

Back to the game’s ending: The Cyclones stormed down the field yet again, and wide receiver Allen Lazard came away with a great catch over his defender in the end zone to retake the lead for good. Have a look at the catch below:

For Oklahoma fans trying to look at the glass half full, here’s one note that may help.
Camping World Ambassador
Prior to the Florida State-Miami game, some of our bowl scouts caught up with a few Florida State fans and gave them a gift card to Camping World to help aid their future tailgates this season.
