Russell Athletic Extends Title Partnership Through 2017

In conjunction with this afternoon’s announcement of the new Russell Athletic Bowl matchup that begins in 2014, Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan and Russell Athletic Senior Vice President Gary Barfield announced an extension of the bowl’s title sponsorship through 2017.

In 2012, Russell Athletic signed a partnership with Florida Citrus Sports to become the new title sponsor of the game, which moved to Orlando from Miami in 2001. The inaugural Russell Athletic Bowl this past season featuring Virginia Tech defeating Rutgers, 13-10.

“We’re pleased to announce the extension of our relationship with Florida Citrus Sports and the bowl game through 2017,” said Barfield. “The college football bowl system is entering a very exciting era and, as a brand whose heritage is so closely tied to the sport, we’re thrilled to have top teams from two premier conferences associated with our game.”

As the new postseason model begins in 2014, Russell Athletic and FCSports have agreed to extend the partnership through two-thirds of the next bowl cycle, when the game will feature the top selection from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the second selection from the Big 12 Conference (both after the College Football Playoff series).
