Champs Sports Bowl Selection Update: Week 6
While we already have our first bowl-eligible teams after six weeks of play,
there are far too many games left to be played to know what could be available
to the Champs Sports Bowl in December. Our Team Selection Committee met on
Monday to discuss the current state of our partner conference as we inch closer
to Selection Sunday.

What we learned:
Wake Forest is a contender in the ACC Atlantic: After yet another win over a
favored Florida State team, the Demon Deacons match nationally-ranked Clemson at
3-0 in the division. They will be tested this weekend as they host Virginia
Tech, but this could be a year where Wake plays spoiler to some bigger, faster
and stronger ACC teams.
Virginia Tech is still the team to beat in the Coastal: Many were down on the
Hokies after they dropped a 23-3 decision to Clemson, but VT quickly rebounded
to hold off an upset bid by Miami. They still have Georgia Tech coming up on the
schedule and could reclaim the lead in the division before the ACC Championship
Game comes up.
We still don’t know what we have in the Big East: The lone ranked team, West
Virginia, played their first conference game on Saturday. The entire conference
has a backloaded schedule so we don’t have any grasp on who might emerge as a
contender. Until we get later in the year, we’ll continue to see weekends like
this one, where Rutgers “upset” a Pittsburgh team that was favored in the
preseason.
