ACC & Big 12 Weekend Preview: Oklahoma-West Virginia Headlines Week 12 Slate
In the 12th week of the college football season, members of the Florida Citrus Sports Team Selection Committee are making visits throughout ACC and Big 12 country, meeting with fans across both conferences in advance of the Russell Athletic Bowl on December 28th.
#9 Oklahoma at #14 West Virginia at 8:00p.m. on ABC
In one of only three games this week to feature two ranked teams, Oklahoma (8-2, 7-0 Big 12) puts their conference unbeaten record on the line as they travel to Morgantown to face West Virginia (8-1, 5-1 Big 12). A win would move the Mountaineers into a tie for first place and give them the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Sooners. Following two early non-conference losses, the Sooners have rallied for six consecutive wins, four of which have come by double-digit margins. The Sooners are led by quarterback Baker Mayfield who leads the nation with a 195.2 passer rating and ranks fifth in passing touchdowns (33) and eighth in passing yards (3,212). His number one target is Dede Westbrook, who has the fourth-most receiving yards in the nation (1,254) and third-most receiving touchdowns (14). The Mountaineers are led by a stout defense that has held opponents to 21 points or less in seven of their nine games this season. They enter the contest following a 24-20 victory over Texas in Austin, making them the first team to knock off the Longhorns at home this season. Oklahoma leads the all-time series between the programs, 6-2, including the past four games. West Virginia’s last win over the Sooners came in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl when Pat White led the ‘Eers to a 48-28 victory.
#11 Oklahoma State (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) at TCU (5-4, 3-3 Big 12) at 12:00 p.m. on FS1
Oklahoma State travels to Fort Worth to take on TCU with hopes to remain in the hunt for the Big 12 title. The Cowboys enter this week’s contest off of a 45-44 victory against Texas Tech after the Red Raiders missed an extra point late in the game. The Cowboys have relied on a high-powered offense that has scored 37 points or more in eight of their 10 games. TCU is coming off of their second bye week of the season following a 40-point victory over Baylor the week prior. Oklahoma State leads the series 14-10-2 but the Cowboys haven’t won in Fort Worth since 1947.
