ACC & Big 12 Weekend Preview: Florida-Florida State Highlights Week 13 Schedule
In the 13th week of the college football season, members of the Florida Citrus Sports Team Selection Committee are making visits throughout ACC and Big 12 country, meeting with fans across both conferences in advance of the Russell Athletic Bowl on December 28th.
#15 Florida at #14 Florida State – 8:00 p.m. on ABC/ESPN
For the second season in a row Florida (8-2, 6-2 SEC) and Florida State (8-3, 5-3 ACC) are both ranked in the Top 15 in the nation heading into their matchup. Last season the Seminoles dominated the Gators, earning a 27-2 victory in Gainesville. The Seminoles have won three straight, their longest win streak of the season and have totaled 45 points in each of their past two games. The Gators enter off of a 16-10 victory at LSU in which its defense stuffed LSU running back Derrius Guice on the goal line as time expired to hold on. The Seminoles have won five of the past six meetings with the Gators but the teams have split the past 22 outings. Florida leads the all-time series, 34-24-2.
Virginia at Virginia Tech – 12:00 p.m. on ESPN2
Virginia Tech (8-3, 5-2 ACC) will look to clinch the ACC Coastal Division and a spot in the ACC Championship Game in Orlando with a win over rival Virginia (2-9, 1-6 ACC). The Hokies rallied from 17 points down against Notre Dame last weekend, outscoring the Irish 13-0 in the final quarter to get the win and keep their division title hopes alive after North Carolina knocked off FCS power The Citadel at home. A Virginia Tech win or a Tar Heels loss this week would clinch the trip to Camping World Stadium for the Hokies. After opening their conference slate with a win on the road over Duke, the Cavaliers have lost six straight entering this season-ending rivalry game. Virginia Tech holds a 55-37-5 advantage in the series and has won the last 12 meetings dating back to 2004. The Cavaliers last win in Blacksburg came in 1998.
