ACC & Big 12 Week 9 Preview: Two potential Camping World Bowl candidates square off in Ames

Oklahoma State (4-3) at No. 23 Iowa State (5-2) – 3:30 p.m. on FS1

Saturday’s matchup between the Cowboys and the No. 23 Cyclones marks 54th overall meeting in a series that dates back to 1926. Oklahoma State holds a 31-19-3 series advantage, including a 14-12-1 edge in games played in Ames.

Each of last four Iowa State-Oklahoma State contests has been decided by one possession. Last season, Iowa State snapped a six-game losing streak to Oklahoma State with a 48-42 win in Stillwater. Quarterback Brock Purdy led the way with 318 passing yards and four touchdowns, along with 84 yards and a score on the ground.

• Iowa State is the Cowboys’ fourth ranked opponent in its last five games.

• The Cyclones are riding a school-record streak of five-straight home victories over Big 12 opponents and habe won nine of their last 10 games overall in Jack Trice Stadium.
• Iowa State’s last three losses, dating back to the 2018 Alamo Bowl, have been by a combined five points (Washington State 28-26, Iowa 18-17, Baylor 23-21).
• The Cyclones offense is ranked No. 10 in passing (320.7 yards per game), No. 20 in scoring (37.1) and No. 15 in total offense (481.1).
• Quarterback Brock Purdy leads the Big 12 and ranks fifth nationally in passing yards per game (312.1). He has had six 300-yard passing games in his career, the most in Iowa State history.

Miami (3-4) at Pittsburgh (5-2) – Noon on ESPN
These Coastal Division foes have met every season since 2013 and 37 times overall. Miami leads the series 25-11-1, including last season’s upset of the then-No. 25 Panthers 24-3 in the regular season finale.

No. 5 Oklahoma (7-0) at Kansas State (4-2) – Noon on ABC
Oklahoma is hoping to register its 23rd consecutive true road win on Saturday as it takes on the Wildcats in Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Sooners’ 22-game true road game winning streak is the longest in the nation, followed by Clemson with 10. In last season’s matchup, Oklahoma racked up a season-high 702 yards of offense and scored on its first nine possessions in a 51-14 home win.

Syracuse (3-4) at Florida State (3-4) – 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2
The Orange are looking for their first victory in Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday and third overall in the overall series. Syracuse’s only two wins bookend the series with a 37-21 win in 1966, and a 30-7 victory last season.

Virginia (5-2) at Louisville (4-3) – 3:30 p.m. on ACCN
The Cavaliers are facing the Cardinals for the eighth time overall in a series that Louisville leads 4-3. Last season, Virginia snapped a three-game losing streak with a 27-3 win in Charlottesville, which saw its defense hold Louisville to a season-low 214 yards of offense.

No. 15 Texas (5-2) at TCU (3-3) – 3:30 p.m. on FOX
The Longhorns and the Horned Frogs are meeting for the 90th time in program history. Texas owns a 63-25-1 record and snapped a four-game losing streak to TCU with a 31-16 win in Austin last season. The longest winning streak was held by Texas, which won 24 straight over TCU from 1968 through 1991.

Duke (4-3) at North Carolina (3-4) – 4 p.m. on ACCNX
The Victory Bell is on the line on Saturday when these Coastal Division foes square off in a storied rivalry that dates back to 1888. The Blue Devils and the Tar Heels have met on the gridiron every year since 1922 with North Carolina leading the overall series 59-41-4.

Texas Tech (3-4) at Kansas (2-5) – 7 p.m. on FS1
The Red Raiders and the Jayhawks are meeting for the 21st time in series that has been dominated by Texas Tech since it began in 1965. Kansas has only beaten the Red Raiders once in program history, a 34-31 win in 2001 in Lubbock. Texas Tech is currently riding a 12-game winning streak against Kansas, including a 48-16 home win last season.

Boston College (4-3) at No. 4 Clemson (7-0) – 7:30 p.m. on ACCN
Clemson is celebrating Homecoming this weekend as it hosts Boston College for the 29th time in series history. For the 12th time in the series, the Tigers and the Eagles are playing for the O’Rourke-McFadden Trophy, which was established by the Boston College Gridiron Club in 2008. The trophy has belonged to Clemson for the last eight years.
