ACC & Big 12 Week 8 Recap:Yellow Jackets Sting The Seminoles

Georgia Tech 22, #9 Florida State 16

Patrick Gamble blocked Roberto Aguayo‘s 56-yard field goal attempt and Lance Austin raced 78 yards for the game-winning score as the Yellow Jackets (3-5, 1-4 ACC) defeated the Seminoles (6-1, 4-1 ACC) in a game already known as “The Miracle On Techwood Drive”. The win snapped Georgia Tech’s five-game losing streak as they handed Florida State its first ACC loss since Oct. 6, 2012.

 

#23 Duke 45, Virginia Tech 43 – 4OT

QB Thomas Sirk threw four touchdown passes, the last one in the fourth overtime, and then ran for the game-winning 2-point conversion to lead the Blue Devils (6-1, 3-0 ACC) to victory in the longest game in ACC history. Duke extended their road winning-streak to six, and 12 of the last 13, handing the Hokies (3-5, 1-3 ACC) their third loss in four games.

 

Texas 23, Kansas State 9

The Longhorns (3-4, 2-2 Big 12) rushed for 274 yards as a team and managed five sacks to battle past both the elements and the Wildcats (3-4, 0-4 Big 12). Johnathan Gray rushed for a season-high 103 yards and QB Jerrod Heard threw for 99 yards (10-15) while contributing 61 more on the ground.

 

North Carolina 26, Virginia 13

Elijah Hood rushed for two touchdowns and the Tar Heels (6-1, 3-0 ACC) defense forced five turnovers to defeat the Cavaliers (2-5, 1-2 ACC) Hood finished with 101 yards rushing and two 3-yard scoring runs, T.J. Logan added a 16-yard TD and Nick Weiler kicked two field goals. North Carolina broke a 13-13 halftime tie and never looked back, scoring on their first three possessions.

 

#17 Oklahoma 63, Texas Tech 27

Samaje Perine ran for 201 yards and four touchdowns and QB Baker Mayfield threw for 212 yards (15-22) and two touchdowns as the Sooners (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) topped Mayfield’s former team, the Red Raiders (5-2, 2-3 Big 12). Oklahoma never trailed, gaining 617 yards of total offense.
