ACC & Big 12 Week 6 Preview: Pair of popular Camping World Bowl picks duel in Sunflower State

Baylor (4-0) at Kansas State (3-1) – 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2

Two of the most popular media picks in our latest round of Bowl Projections presented by AdventHealth are squaring off in the Little Apple this week, as Kansas State looks to hand Baylor its first loss of the 2019 season.

Baylor trails the all-time series with Kansas State 9-7, and is 2-5 in games played in Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Last season, Baylor picked up a thrilling 37-34 win at McLane Stadium in Waco on the back of a 29-yard field goal from Connor Martin with eight seconds left in the game.

Baylor’s most recent Camping World Bowl appearance came in 2015, in what was then known as the Russell Athletic Bowl. The 18th-ranked Bears defeated No. 10 North Carolina 49-38 in that game thanks to 645 total rushing yards, including 299 from game MVP Johnny Jefferson.

A Kansas State appearance in the Camping World Bowl would be the Wildcats’ first Orlando bowl trip.

• The Bears are riding a four-game winning streak for the first time since opening the 2016 season 6-0.

Kansas State Quick Hits:

• The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a 26-13 setback at Oklahoma State, as they open their Big 12 home schedule with the first of three-straight home games.
• The K-State rushing attack is led by seniors James Gilbert (321 yards) and Jordon Brown (166 yards), along with junior Harry Trotter (122 yards). The group has accounted for 11 rushing touchdowns in its first four games after only registering 13 total last season.
• Quarterback Skylar Thompson leads the Wildcats with 695 yards of total offense.
• The Kansas State defense ranks second in the nation in passing yards allowed (127.3 yards per game), third in third down defense (20.5 percent), seventh in pass efficiency defense (92.93) and 17th in scoring defense (16 points per game).
• Linebacker Da’Quan Patton and safety Denzel Goolsby lead the team in tackles with 21 and 20, respectively.
• Defensive end Wyatt Hubert has a team-high 2.0 sacks, and cornerback AJ Parker has a team-best two interceptions.

No. 6 Oklahoma (4-0) at Kansas (3-2) – 12 p.m. on ABC
The Sooners are looking to extend their 21-game true road game winning streak, the longest in the nation, as they take on Kansas in David Booth Memorial Stadium. The next longest road winning streak is nine by Clemson, followed by multiple schools with five.

No. 21 Oklahoma State (4-1) at Texas Tech (2-2) – 12 p.m. on FS1
The Cowboys and the Red Raiders are meeting for the 47th time overall, and the 24th consecutive game, in a series that dates back to 1935. Texas Tech owns a 22-21-3 edge in the all-time series, but Oklahoma State has won nine of the past 10 games, including each of the past five matchups in Lubbock.

TCU (3-1) at Iowa State (2-2) – 12 p.m. on ESPN2
The last two contests between the Horned Frogs and the Cyclones have been decided by a total of 10 points with the home team winning each meeting. Iowa State won 14-7 in 2017, while TCU earned a 17-14 victory last season. Iowa State’s 2017 win was its first against TCU since it beat the Horned Frogs 27-24 in the 2012 Houston Bowl.

Boston College (3-2) at Louisville (2-2) – 12:30 p.m. on ACCNX
Boston College and Louisville are meeting for the 12th time in a series that the Cardinals lead 6-5. In last year’s matchup, Boston College upset Louisville with help from quarterback AJ Dillon, who had a career-high four touchdowns and 272 yards.

Virginia Tech (2-2) at Miami (2-2) – 3:30 p.m. on ESPN
The Hurricanes are seeking a victory over the Hokies for the third consecutive year and the fourth time in the past five meetings. The longtime foes have met every year since 1992, with the Hurricanes leading the overall series 22-14, including a 13-6 lead in games on their home turf.

No. 11 Texas (3-1) at West Virginia (3-1) – 3:30 p.m. on ABC
The Longhorns and the Mountaineers only met one time on the gridiron before West Virginia joined the Big 12 in 2012 – a 7-6 win for the Mountaineers in Austin in 1956. Last season, the Longhorns fell to the Mountaineers 42-41 in Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium after West Virginia quarterback Will Grier threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Gary Jennings with 16 seconds remaining to tie the game, then ran in a 2-point conversion.

North Carolina (2-3) at Georgia Tech (1-3) – 4 p.m. on ACCN
The Tar Heels and the Yellow Jackets are playing for the 40th consecutive season, and the 55th time overall in a series that Georgia Tech leads, 30-21-3. For the first time in program history, the Yellow Jackets are wearing gray uniforms to honor Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s annual Cape Day.

Pittsburgh (3-2) at Duke (3-1) – 8 p.m. on ACCN
This will be the 24th contest between the Panthers and the Blue Devils in a series that dates back to 1929. A Duke win would end a four-game losing streak to Pitt. The last time the Blue Devils defeated the Panthers was a 51-48 double-overtime victory in 2014.
