Kansas State Earns Rare Win in Stillwater

Kansas State defeated Oklahoma State in Stillwater for the first time since 1999 this weekend, marking the Wildcats’ first victory over a ranked team since 2014 (Oklahoma) and their first win over a top-10 team since 2012 (also Oklahoma). Now bowl eligible, K-State was led in the 45-40 shootout by redshirt freshman quarterback Skylar Thompson, who, in his second career start, completed 10-of-13 passes for 204 yards and three scores and also ran 17 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, outgained K-State 510-421 and has averaged 41 points in its three losses on the season.

Wake Forest Holds Off NC State

Wake Forest and North Carolina State went blow-for-blow in their intrastate showdown Saturday night, with the Wolfpack rallying to tie the Demon Deacons each time the host team went up a score for the majority of the game. As of Kyle Bambard’s field goal early in the fourth, the teams had been tied 7-7, 14-14, 21-21 and 24-24, and NC State drove down inside the Wake red zone on the ensuing drive after John Wolford hit Tabari Hines for an 18-yard touchdown pass with 8:03 remaining in Wake’s 30-24 victory. But Demetrius Kemp forced and recovered a fumble inches from the Demon Deacons’ goal line (more on that later), preserving their 30-24 victory.

‘Canes Rally From Slow Start, Stay Perfect

Miami fell behind 14-0 early at home against Virginia on Saturday but rallied to tie the score at 14-14 early in the second quarter and closed the game on a 30-0 run — and held the visitors without a single third- or fourth-down conversion in the second half — in a 44-28 win over the Cavaliers. The win extended Miami’s win streak to 15 games, including a 10-0 mark this season, and included three forced turnovers, a staple of the Hurricanes’ defense this season. With the win, the ‘Canes clinched their first 10-win season since 2003. Miami will close the season at Pitt before facing Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.

Grier Hurt as Texas Tops West Virginia

Texas became bowl eligible for the first time since 2014 and earned its third win in four games Saturday with a 28-14 win over West Virginia in Morgantown. The Mountaineers offense came in averaging 513.9 yards and 39 points per game but was limited to just 295 yards and 14 points against the Longhorns. The West Virginia offense was hindered by the loss of quarterback Will Grier, who broke his finger diving for the pylon in the first quarter of Saturday’s game. Grier is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair the finger on Sunday.
