ACC & Big 12 Week 11 Roundup: ‘Horns keep Big 12 title hopes alive with win over K-State
Texas survived No. 16 Kansas State 27-24 on Saturday thanks to a 26-yard Cameron Dicker field goal as time expired, keeping the Longhorns alive in a tight race for the Big 12 crown.
Things did not start smoothly for the ‘Horns, as Texas fell behind 7-0 almost immediately thanks to a 70-yard touchdown pass from K-State quarterback Skylar Thompson to wide receiver Malik Knowles on the third play of the game. The Wildcats then added a 19-yard touchdown from Thompson to wider receiver Wykeen Gill to go up 14-0.
“The win is obviously very important for us,” Texas head coach Tom Herman said. “The way it happened, to be down 14-0 in the blink of an eye… We put ourselves on the ropes (this season) and we took a step toward swinging and scratching and clawing our way off.”
The Longhorns finally got on the board in the second quarter thanks to a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sam Ehlinger to wide receiver Collin Johnson, while the Texas defense held Kansas State scoreless in both the second and third quarters.
Early in the fourth, Texas pushed its lead to 24-14 on a 12-yard touchdown run by Keaontay Ingram, who finished the game with 16 carries for 139 yards and two scores. However, Joshua Youngblood returned the ensuing kickoff 98 yards to paydirt and a 45-yard Blake Lynch field goal with 6:45 to play knotted the score at 24-24.
Texas was able to bleed the clock from there, though, and moved 67 yards on 13 plays to set up Dicker’s game-winner as the clock hit 0:00.
“It stinks to lose,” Kansas State head coach Chris Kleiman said. “There’s no moral victories, guys are hurting. But I’m proud of the way the guys fought and battled. We need to bounce back and have a great week of prep and get ready for the next one.”

No. 5 Clemson 55, NC State 10: Clemson clinched the ACC Atlantic Division title and a trip to the conference championship game with a 55-10 rout of NC State. Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for two scores and ran for another as he finished the day 20-for-27 for 276 yards.
Notre Dame 38, Duke 7: The Fighting Irish routed the Blue Devils on Saturday as quarterback Ian Book rushed for a career-best 139 yards and threw four touchdown passes in the win. Book is now the first player in Notre Dame history to throw four touchdown passes and rush for 100 yards in a game.
Virginia Tech 36, No. 19 Wake Forest 17: Virginia Tech picked up its first home win over a ranked team since 2009 with a 36-17 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. The Hokies were led by their defense, which held the Demon Deacons to season lows in total yards (301) and points.
Florida State 38, Boston College 31: After Boston College erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to tie the score at 24-24, Florida State responded with two touchdowns in 45 seconds to escape Chestnut Hill with a victory. The first came on a 60-yard pass from James Blackman to D.J. Matthews with 1:48 to play, and, following a Florida State interception, Jordan Travis broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run – the longest by a quarterback in ‘Noles history.
Virginia 33, Georgia Tech 28: Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins completed 24 of 35 passing attempts and accounted for two touchdowns – one through the air and one on the ground – as the Cavaliers shut down the Yellow Jackets. The game was the fourth of Perkins’ career with at least 200 passing yards and 100 rushing yards.
Miami 52, Louisville 27: Miami quarterback Jarren Williams set a school record with six touchdown passes and the Hurricanes clinched bowl-eligibility with a win over the Cardinals.
No. 9 Oklahoma 42, Iowa State 41: After falling behind 42-21 in the third quarter, Iowa State scored three straight fourth-quarter touchdowns to close the gap to 42-41 with 24 seconds to play. The Cyclones then chose to attempt a game-winning two-point conversion, but Oklahoma cornerback Parnell Motley intercepted quarterback Brock Purdy in the end zone to seal the Sooners victory.
No. 12 Baylor 29, TCU 23 (3OT): TCU pushed unbeaten Baylor to the brink on Saturday in Fort Worth, but the Bears escaped thanks to a 4-yard touchdown catch from Denzel Mims in the third overtime. The score was 9-9 heading into the first overtime, marking first time since a 6-3 loss to Rice in 1989 that neither Baylor nor its opponent scored a regulation touchdown.
Texas Tech 38, West Virginia 17: Texas Tech jumped out to a 21-3 lead behind 234 first quarter yards – the Red Raiders’ highest first-quarter yardage total since 2015 – setting the stage for a 38-17 rout of West Virginia, which has now dropped five straight games.
