If there was any question that quarterback Philip Rivers was the best player in the Atlantic Coast Conference during the 2003 football season, he erased all doubts in with a record-setting 475 passing yards and five touchdowns to lead NC State to a 56-26 win over Kansas.
Rivers was nothing short of sensational, hitting 82.2 percent of his passes (37-of-45) while setting bowl records for yardage and touchdown passes. Senior flanker Jerricho Cotchery also had a record-breaking night with 13 catches and 171 yards. Add in Richard Washington’s two touchdown receptions and T.A. McClendon’s 116 all-purpose yards with three touchdowns and the stats add up to an incredible 653 yards of total offense for the Wolfpack against the Jayhawk defense.
