Tremaine Mack treated the hometown crowd to a defensive show as he led Miami to a 31-21 victory over Virginia in front of 46,618 fans.
After Miami quarterback Ryan Clement completed a 70-yard touchdown pass to Yatil Green, Mack gave the Hurricanes a 14-0 first-quarter lead as he returned a fumble 79 yards to the end zone. Mack then returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown to give the Hurricanes a commanding 24-7 lead at the half.
Virginia tried to play catch-up with scoring runs in both the third and fourth quarters, but the damage had been done.
